Meet Tammy: My Approach & A Glimpse Into My Life

Tammy Leonard

Registered Social Worker | Anxiety, Self-Worth & Navigating Difficult Relationships

Tammy Leonard is a Registered Social Worker offering therapy in Saint John and virtually across New Brunswick. She works with adults who are navigating anxiety, self-worth, boundaries, relationship challenges, and the complexities that come with life transitions.

Tammy holds a Master of Social Work from St. Thomas University and brings extensive experience from frontline roles, including child protection work in Ontario. This background has shaped a grounded, non-judgmental approach to complex family dynamics, trauma, and the impact of systems on people’s lives. She has worked with individuals and families during some of their most difficult moments, and brings that depth, steadiness, and perspective into her clinical work.

Her approach is trauma-informed, person-centred, and relational. Tammy focuses on creating a space where clients feel safe enough to be honest about what they’re experiencing, while also being supported to explore patterns, build insight, and make meaningful changes. She pays close attention not only to the challenges clients bring in, but to the broader context that shaped them.

Tammy supports clients working through anxiety, low self-worth, people-pleasing, boundary-setting, burnout, and relational stress. Sessions are collaborative and paced to the individual, with an emphasis on helping clients feel more grounded, clear, and confident in how they move through their lives.

Her clinical work draws from evidence-based approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and mindfulness-based practices, which she integrates in a way that feels practical and accessible.

Tammy is actively involved in expanding access to care within the community. She is currently co-developing and facilitating a low-cost therapeutic group alongside an MSW student, reflecting her commitment to making support more accessible and responsive to community needs.

Tammy’s approach is grounded, compassionate, and deeply genuine. Clients often find that they can show up as they are, without judgment, and begin to make sense of experiences that may have felt overwhelming or difficult to name.
