EMDR Therapy
Sometimes the past continues to affect the present in ways that are difficult to explain. EMDR therapy helps your brain process distressing experiences so they no longer hold the same emotional intensity, allowing you to move forward with greater confidence and peace.
Book NowYou do not have to stay stuck in the impact of the past.
Many people come to EMDR therapy after trying to cope on their own for years. They may understand what happened, but their body and emotions still react as though the experience is happening now. EMDR is designed to help your brain process those memories in a way that reduces their emotional charge, without requiring you to relive every detail.

EMDR Therapy
Healing is possible, even if it does not feel that way today. EMDR can help you move beyond painful experiences and reconnect with the life you want to live.
- Certain memories or experiences still feel overwhelming.
- You feel anxious, on edge, or easily triggered by situations that remind you of the past.
- You avoid people, places, or conversations because they bring up difficult emotions.
- You struggle with negative beliefs about yourself that seem impossible to shake.

EMDR therapy can help you process the past without staying stuck in it.
Imagine being able to think about difficult experiences without feeling overwhelmed. Respond to challenges with greater calm instead of reacting from old wounds. Feel more connected to yourself and the people around you. Build confidence in your ability to move forward while knowing your past no longer defines your future.
At The Therapy Collective, EMDR therapy is always tailored to your individual needs. We move at a pace that feels safe, and you remain in control throughout every stage of the process.

We begin by getting to know you, your history, and your goals. Together, we determine whether EMDR is the right approach for your needs and build a strong foundation before beginning trauma processing.
Before processing difficult memories, we focus on helping you develop grounding skills and emotional resources so you feel safe and supported throughout therapy.
Using the EMDR process, we work together to help your brain reprocess distressing memories, reducing the emotional intensity and helping you move toward healing.
As therapy progresses, we strengthen positive beliefs, reinforce your progress, and help you carry your new sense of confidence and resilience into everyday life.

No. One of the things that makes EMDR different is that you do not need to narrate your experience in detail for it to work. You hold the memory in awareness while the bilateral stimulation does its work. Your therapist guides the process without requiring you to relive everything verbally.
Yes. Virtual EMDR is well-supported by research and is widely practiced online. Our EMDR therapists offer virtual sessions across Ontario, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia. Your therapist adapts the bilateral stimulation for a virtual format, typically using tapping or audio cues. Many clients find virtual sessions just as effective, with the added benefit of being in their own space.
It depends on what you are working with. Single-incident trauma can sometimes show meaningful shifts within 6 to 12 sessions. Complex or developmental trauma typically takes longer. Your therapist will give you a realistic sense of what to expect after your first session together.
No. While EMDR was originally developed for PTSD, it is now used effectively for anxiety, phobias, grief, performance issues, and negative self-beliefs. If there is a memory or belief that feels stuck, EMDR therapy may be worth exploring.
Yes. EMDR is one of the modalities we offer through our therapy intensives program. Extended sessions allow EMDR processing to move through full cycles without stopping mid-session, which many clients find more effective and more comfortable. Ask us about intensive options when you reach out.
You do not have to keep carrying what happened to you.
You do not need to have all the answers before starting EMDR therapy. Whether your experiences come from a single event or many smaller experiences over time, healing is possible. Together, we will create a treatment plan that feels safe, supportive, and centred around your unique needs.
